Life Lessons

About 2 weeks ago as I was unloading the dishwasher, I noticed that it didn't drain. There was about 2 inches in the bottom. I tried all the buttons and couldn't get it to drain or even restart. Jason pulled it apart and couldn't get it to start either. Jaiden told us that we were going to have to buy a 'TON' of paper plates and Camry said we would need lots and lots bowls and spoons too. Jason and I smiled and he said" I still have two more dishwashers" and pointed to them. Their eyes got real big.
But..... after a week of no dishwasher they decided it wasn't that bad. I realized that they had never really washed dishes by hand (even though they load and unload the dishwasher for me all the time). So we took turns washing, rinsing and drying each night and actually had fun doing it together. We got it fixed a week later, but it was a great lesson learned and a good teaching moment. They are way more careful about all the cups they use and we all have a greater appreciation for the finer things in life. Now "knock on wood" I hope nothing else goes out. We have had to fix our AC unit and our oven this year too and last week Jaiden blew up our microwave plate and burned up the motor in my mixer. I guess these things have to happen when you teach your kids to cook.

We are pretty spoiled in this day and age aren't we? You guys probably had some fun converstions while doing the dishes together. When the girls get older they'll be saying...I remember when my parents had us wash the dishes for a whole week! :)

What would we have done in the olden days? I guess we wouldn't have known any different, but experiences like these help us to appreciate what we have now. Cute Story & lasting memory.
